Lady Gaga 'Born This Way' Video Glam Squad Talks Beauty Look - StyleList

The world has pretty much learned to expect the unexpected from Lady Gaga, and with today's premiere of her highly anticipated "Born This Way" video, the artist didn't disappoint in the categories of pushing boundaries and imagination.Alien-egg-hatching scenes aside (you knew we hadn't seen the last of podlike images as they pertain to Gaga), the beauty looks ranged from beautiful glowing skin with dramatically winged eyeliner to carefully crafted skeleton face paint to dark raccoon eyes with muted lips.At The Makeup Show: Los Angeles last weekend, StyleList had the lace front wigs opportunity to chat with renowned makeup artists Billy B, who is the man responsible for her "Born This Way" makeup looks -- plus a variety of others, from the most over-the-top to the more natural -- and James Vincent, who worked with the video's dancers.While these makeup masterminds didn't want to divulge too many details before the video premiere, Billy B filled us in on what it's like to work with such a creative and unique client on such a large-scale project."You can plan all day long on what you're going to do and even discuss it with her a million times what you're going to do -- and then you never know until you're actually doing it what it's going to end up being," he explains. "That's one of the things that I love about working with Lady Gaga. As long as I've been doing this, no matter how I full lace wigs might think I've done everything, I never know with her. I'm constantly challenged and it's always inspired and it's always exciting and it's always a risk."As far as products used, we definitely expected an appearance by one of Lady Gaga's most personal projects: her involvement with MAC Viva Glam."Of course we used Viva Glam, which she's so passionate about," says Billy B. "She's very, very involved with that. I use a lot of MAC. I use anything that works, personally. I don't necessarily believe that a high price tag determines what's better, so as a makeup artist I'll use everything from Wet 'n Wild to MAC or Christian Dior or Chanel. It depends on if I like it and it does what I need it to do. I love Face Atelier foundation and L'Oréal Voluminous Mascara in Blackest Black. So it ranges from drugstore to high-end makeup."As far as the dancers were concerned, Vincent was all about keeping their look raw and natural."I looked at products chinese hair like Embryolisse for skin care and YSL Touche Éclat to make the skin look luminous," he says. "I love the Makeup Forever HD Elixir. For me, it was about keeping the skin really amazing. I love the OCC Lip Tar in Interlace. I really wanted it to be kind of natural and really playing up the shapes and features of the performers."For Vincent, whose work appears across fashion runways, editorial pages and celebrities the world over, working on the "Born This Way" video was still a treat."Gaga is so brilliant at bringing across new ideas and new concepts, and I was thrilled to be able to be a part of it," he says. "It really is going to be one of those iconic images and videos that people look at and Billy does the most beautiful work with her.
